ESSAY QUESTION: Included in this packet is the most recent "Point of Passion" campaign by Conde Nast.

Its image relates to Teen Vogue, and stars Zoe Kravitz, the daughter of Lenny, and Lorraine Nicholson, the daughter of Jack.

Please explain the choice of protagonists in relation to both the magazine's subtext and the stereotypes it invokes in various media critics. Describe how the juxtaposition of the ad subjects in relation to their setting adds to these themes.

Extra Credit: Why is Lorraine reading the Kate Bosworth issue of Teen Vogue, in particular? And who starred in the first Point of Passion campaign for the magazine?

Please, no shopping during the quiz.

Teen Vogue is introducing us to its new interns/Vogue's interns->editors->correspondents of the future, because why hire someone talented if you can hire someone famous?

And as for Kate Bosworth...Conde Nast likes anorexic blondes? Was this even a question?

i can see the pitch meeting in my head:

ooh, look! a black girl! i mean, she's got some white in her, but oooh, diversity!

oh and look! makeup mirror on the right, boxing gloves on the left - it's as though the magazine wants us to know girls can be both beautiful and good at sports typically reserved for the males. so progressive, this magazine... seventeen year olds should be sexy and better than the boys. girl power!

and let's not forget the mac and the mirrored vanity - seventeen year olds should ahve shockingly contemporary senses of style with no regard to price point - afterall, shouldnt all seventeen eyar old aspire to be wealthy hollywood royalty? who doesnt want to be paris hilton?

uggh, this stuff makes me sick.

My guess is that Lorraine was featured in the Kate Bosworth issue- Teen Vogue ofton features daughters of famous people in a section divoted to them. As for the first person featured: Charlotte Ronson. I'm sure Teen Vogue readers did not know how much her sister would affect their beloved princess, Lindsay

On a related note, these two make perfect sense because they are the only "readers" who can afford the $1,000 chanel bags that Amy Astley just loves to slap into any editorial.

It's too styled to be believable. We all had posters, stickers and cut-outs on our wall as teens...but the attention to detail is borderline o.c.d.

Lisa Bonet used to come into my work, and she didn't look a bit fabulously stylish to me. Slightly eccentric, maybe, but not stylish.

So Lenny Kravitz is somehow a king of rock'n'roll and his daugther is a princess? I think I like her better than her dad though.

I can't wait til someone gets to exploit Jack White and Karen's kid.
