We Love Jane. We Are Sad.

Jul 09, 2007 @ 11:53am

We're hearing swirls inside the Conde Nast building that it's confirmed, Jane Magazine folded today.

We adore(d) Jane, and we are bummed. More details later.

Sad...but Jane's been dead to me since Brandon Holley took over and they started putting sex tip teases on the cover. But the real downfall was when Pamela Anderson's column went away. That was awesome.

Awww, Jane used to be my favorite! I have to say that recently, I've been able to read the whole thing cover to cover in about 30 minutes, so I started losing interest, but I'll miss the somewhat-unique-to-girly-mags pov that it had. Replacement suggestions, anyone?

ever since jane left JANE has been awful. They changed the format and turned it from cool into cosmo girly crap. I canceled my subscription and refused to buy an issue. I am glad to see others agreed with me about the change and JANE. This is what they get for ignoring their loyal JANE loving consumers- desertion!

Oh no!
I don't think they turned into a cosmo at all, but even if the format changed a bit, now we really dont have any non-lame magazines.

The writing in Jane has been unbearable for some time now, good riddance!

sad times for the whole magazine industry really.
i was quite a fan of Mitzi Miller when she wrote for Jane. i hope she finds a new place to work.

Hate to join the bandwagon but you're right... the mag used to be the one that i'd be attached to my mailbox for but for some time now its lost itself. It can definetly be finished before a train ride home and is awfully close to cosmoGirl ( minus the sex tips of course )A friend of mine interned there this past semester and she said that there were no signs, there are even posting for interns for fall on ed2010..

Sarah Jane: agreed. The writing isn't good and the mag's voice is very formulaic, bitchy and holier-than-thou.

As has been said, JANE went immediately and depressingly downhill as soon as Jane left. It used to be my favorite magazine.

I'm sad that the old magazine died, not so sad that the crappy stand-in kicked the bucket.

it's sad nonetheless because it really was an alternative to cosmo at some point. now it's not going to be able to redeem itself, ever, as i was hoping. ugh.

how long until a replacement gets rolled out?

This is so sad to hear, but I do agree about the aweful changes that JANE went through. their layout of the magazine changed and wasnt so cut and paste looking any longer. i loved JANE because it was different from other female magazines and it slowly conformed. I will miss it though.

Way depressed...when I get home I'm rummaging through my back issues (the ones made when Pratt was still there). I feel bad for her - I can't imagine my life's work and name ran down the drain.

So sad! I've been reading Falling Out of Fashion and have been thinking of Jane over the past month. Now it's folding. What a shame!

Is anyone else cringing at the grammar and spelling in the comments today?

Oh my.

Being a pseudo-copy editor, I should care, but I don't. At least, not with the comments. Life's too short.

Now, when Faran and company misspell 'Fashion,' I cringe and even get a little angry.*

But then I laugh and laugh and laugh some more, because it's not my mistake, or publication, and my ass won't be getting chewed out because of it. (And hopefully, they don't either.)

* I'm picking y'all. You should see some of my great screw-ups. In print. For 50,000 readers to enjoy and laugh at ...

While this does somewhat suck, what I'm wondering is, am I getting a refund for my subscription?

For a Jane replacement: Read a couple pages of Nylon then a couple from Elle. Repeat.

They're both great magazines, but both have annoying bits... together they can rule the world.

Bummer. I really liked Jane. Even though it was better before Brandon.
