Gemma: The Commercial

Thanks to reader Keisha for this video, which seems to be an IMG promotion of their biggest star.

It's fun to see Gemma wink and wave to the camera, but we don't really get it:

She's already the most successful model in her age group, and major designers don't need a commercial of their occasional muse in order to cast her again.

Meanwhile, if this is for movies, we're depressed for Hollywood starlets everywhere - Gemma doesn't even talk in this reel.

Maybe she wants to be a music video girl, like Alicia Silverstone and Aerosmith?

I understand the commercial. She is a top model but NOT a a supermodel. The average person has no idea who she is. Ask most people to name a model, Cindy , Noami , Giselle , Kate & even Tyra will come up.

Gemma did not make the Forbes list. While Giselle is making 33 million. Gemma is a high fashion girl but not a supermodel. IMG is ready to cash in and make Gisele money from her.

I think Gemma would rather be an actress than a supermodel no? 3 films down and all that. Surely anyone checking out the video would know who Gemma was anyway? I'm far from figuring out the purpose of the video but the child in me wants it to be some sort of Agency ego-battle.

Next up: Coco spinning around to "Tell Me Ma". Oh please.

I love her, BUT
she doesn't have a face for commercials.
she's too high fashion. too alien.
average-joe americans won't find her appealing.

But I'll still love her : )

i love gemma. she's gorgeous. seem's down 2 earth. but not yet a supermodel. like the others have said: the common person doesn't even know who she is. hopefully she'll make her way up to naomi, cindy, and kate's status soon. soon.

I have todisagree Ali, I think when you make her up to look like an alien--she looks like an alien. But in less fantastic shoots, she is very appealing. I dont like the look of most popular modern fashion models, but Gemma is so gorgeous (esp. when she smiles) that I think she transcends her genre. I think top supermodels have to be appealing to both women AND men. Hence the popularity of voluptious women like Tyra, Claudia, GIselle etc. Kate Moss is the only one that really defies that and I think that with the right placement, Gemma can do that as well. Or she could just be an actress. I love looking at her though.
