Most Loathsome New Yorkers: Underperform

perelbarkin.jpgThe New York Press released their annual "Most Loathsome New Yorkers" list yesterday and unless you count a handful of real estate developers and Michael Bloomberg, they only included one Wall Street guy: Ron Perelman. And he wasn't included for anything he did professionally; he was included because he spends time and money in St. Barth's (or St. Bart's, as the Press calls it) and playing musical wives.

But a trail of broken boards wasn't the only thing this cigar-chomping Romeo wracked up. There's also the trail of broken-hearted trophy wives: Claudia Cohen, Patricia Duff and even Ellen Barkin, twice! It seems as though it was only six months ago that Barkin was taking time out of the Palindromes junket to bill and coo about her man, who apparently approaches the pre-nup with the same humanitarian business sense he applies to the corporate takeover.

Only one Wall Street guy! This is a journalistic travesty! We can only assume that the Press neglected Wall Street because they don't know who any of the people are. They're too busy worrying about gentrification and how to make money off a free newspaper in a dying classifieds market.

But we'll take over where the Press left off: Send your nominees and we'll post a Most Loathsome, Wall Street edition. Send to tips AT dealbreaker DOT com.

How in the hell does the NY Press stay in business? It baffles me that they are still able to get people to purchase ads in a paper that no one reads. Am I wrong about this? Are there tons of closeted NY Press readers out there?

or, more to the point: how is dealbreaker going to stay in business?

Well, jim-bo: see those ads on the right and above? Those pay money. And this website doesn't cost very much to maintain. In fact, it costs less than the amount of money the ads bring in every month. The difference is called EBITDA and it allows us to continue operating.

Oooh, now I'm feeling all nostalgic. The last time I explained basic finance to a Wall Street person, I was still working as an equity analyst.

Oooh . . . Elizabeth . . . I luv it when you talk naughty. Can you whisper into my ear about wacc, FCF, and all that good stuff?

Again?! I don't have time for this shit, Stan.

Just a quick question:

How come you keep spelling "loathsome" with an extra "e"? Did the NY Press do it that way?

Posted by Elizabeth Spiers, Mar 31, 2006 4:26PM

Weird subconscious tic. I tend to add gratuitous "e"s to things.

Just fixed.

Ron Perlman? I thought he was a cosmetics (Revlon) guy. How's that make him a Wall St. guy?

Thought some would like to know of one woman that was too much for Ron. Eleanor Mondale. That's right. I had the "duty" once to keep an eye on her for Pearlmen at a party at a Major Hollywood studio. Talk about a women who acts like a guy. She informed me she likes to "_ uck" power. She got trunk and tried to see if she could entice me with her "loud" charms. Obnoxious actually. She wasn't interested really of course; she just loved to conquer men.. She's easy however, but was to out there for Ron P. Too easy for them all - once she got what she wanted she moved on. Bill C in the white house to name a few. Pearlman does like to play the roll. When in traffic he has his off duty cop drivers literally run lights, drive on sidewalks to name a few ridiculous actions he pushes employees to do. He thinks going to synagogue will keep him out of hell too. Don't work DAT way Ronald.
